Where cruise ships dock in Limassol

Cruise ships dock at Limassol New Port / passenger terminal. The marina and medieval old town sit roughly 10–15 minutes away by taxi — pleasant, but not the whole reason ships call. Limassol is the Gateway to Cyprus: Kourion, Crusader castles, Aphrodite's Rock and Troodos all lie within a shore day's reach.

Limassol appears on Eastern Mediterranean itineraries from spring through autumn, with heaviest traffic in summer. Multiple ships on the same day mean busier coaches and fuller paths at Kourion mid-morning.

Think island discovery — mythology, archaeology, mountains and vineyards — not only a city shopping stop.

Getting from the port to town and island sights

Marina and old town: taxis from the passenger terminal typically take 10–15 minutes (€15–25 ballpark — confirm on the day). A long walk from New Port is not the pleasant waterfront stroll some European ports offer.

Kourion: 20–25 minutes west by coach or taxi. Kolossi is a short inland hop on the same side of the city. Aphrodite's Rock (Petra tou Romiou): typically 40–50 minutes west along the coast. Troodos Mountains: allow 1–1.5 hours each way.

Shore excursions meet at the terminal with licensed guides and return timing. Independent multi-stop days need pre-arranged taxis and strict buffers.

Facilities and practicalities

The passenger terminal offers basic facilities for embarking and disembarking guests. Currency is the euro. Cards are widely accepted in Limassol; carry some cash for small purchases and taxis if needed.

Greek is the official language of the Republic of Cyprus; English is widely spoken in tourist areas. Summer heat is serious on exposed ruins — hat, sunscreen and water are essential at Kourion.

Limassol is generally safe. Use licensed taxis, agree or meter fares clearly, and keep valuables close in busy marina crowds. Independent vs excursion: city DIY is easy; island combos favour organised timing.

Return-to-ship timing

Confirm all-aboard time — usually 30–60 minutes before departure. Keep a 60–90 minute buffer beyond expected travel time from Kourion, Aphrodite's Rock or Troodos.

Coastal highway and inland mountain traffic can surprise afternoon planners. Independent passengers should be at New Port 90 minutes before all-aboard when coming from distant stops.

Ship excursions carry delay guarantees; reputable independents track departure but will not wait if you miss the meeting point.
